According to a leaked internal report from the Mauritius Society for Animal Welfare (MSAW), revealed in September 2025, domestic dogs and cats were transferred for experimental use between 2019–2020. This raises serious legal and ethical concerns, as Mauritian law prohibits experimentation on domestic animals and only permits animal research when it demonstrably benefits human or animal life.
